Hungarian Food :
Hi !
We are living in the beautiful city of Budapest since four months now.
We learnt a lot about the culture, the language and also the food !
So let's talk about this last one today :)
Hungary has got some food specialties. As in France, it's part of the culture here.
The first dish I wanted to introduce was also the first I tasted, I'm talking about "the goulash". (See the next picture)
It's a very typical soup from Hungary. It is made with beef, onion, cumin, and a lot of paprika. Actually, the paprika is for Budapest what the cheese is for France, so you will find paprika in many different dishes.
Most of the time, this soup is eaten in the Winter, when it's cold outside.
This soup got the reputation to warm up, and it does. When I tasted it, it was something like -5° outside, and I can assure you than nothing could have been better than this lovely soup. That's why I recommend you to taste it. Moreover, it's something very easy to cook ! Good point for the lazy ones !
The seconde plate I wanted to talk about, is also something very typical here.
It's called "Langos". (See the next picture)
When you first see it, you could think it's something like a pizza, but you're wrong... The dough looks like the one you find in donuts !
So you will be able to put whatever you want on this dough ! On the very typical Hungarian langos, you will find salad, onion, chorizo, and cheese. So yes, almost like a pizza. :)
But that's not all ! You will also be able to made sweet langos, with nutella and Strawberries for exemple. I should precise that the sweet Langos are for the tourists, and the true Hungarian don't even want to hear about that.
As a French taster, of course, I tasted both and I prefered the Sweet one ! But you will be free to make your own opinion about that.
You will be able to eat langos at any time of the year, in any touristic places.
The third dish I want to introduce is actually a pastry. It's called the "Kürtőskalács".
(See the next picture)
It's a sweet dough wonded around a roller and cooked on fire. Once it's cooked, you can add vanilla, or chocolate on it. That's is really good, and for me the best dish in Hungary :)
Maybe this will replace our croissant ? Of course not.
I can't talk about Hungarian food without mention the Drinks, and trust me, you will be surprised. ;)
Of course, they have got their own beers like everywhere, nothing really special on this point. And one of their wine is very known, the "tokaj", it's a top of the line sweet wine.

For the next part, if you are French, I will ask you to seat, and to take a deep breath.
I have to warn you that if you are not prepared, you may need to see a doctor after that.
Well, if you still want to continue...
Hungarian use to drink wine with soda. (See the next picture)
Yes, they mix both, Yes it is forbidden, and Yes they still do it. As a French wine lover, I didn't want to taste this aberration from evil, but I remembered that I had to make my own opinion on this.
Do you think that I lost my French pride ? Well, maybe...
The truth is that it's not that bad. It's very sweet, so easy to drink when you're thirsty. The point is that you must forget what is in your glass, and your French culture.
Once, you did that, you will be able to end your glass.
Of course, Hungarians got their own strong alcohol : "Palinka". (See the next picture)
It's a traditional fruit brandy that they use to drink after the dinner. Many differents tastes are available, and some of them are easier to drink than the original one.
